Pullman Phuket Arcadia Presents Artist Playground 5 “BEAUTIES OF SHADOWS”
Continuing the Pullman brand’s cultural initiative for contemporary art and design, Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach unveils its 5th Artist Playground “Beauties of Shadows”. This exhibition by Ms. Celine Masson, where debuts her first public display of portraits inspired by the people and culture of Asia.
Phuket-based French self-taught artist, Celine Masson, has been honing her skills in the land of Smiles for the past several years. After so many years living in Asia, Celine has a deep and genuine appreciation for the inherent beauty of the people and culture of Asia. These unique paintings of hers are a lighthearted perspective on the stereotype of the Asian woman. The collection draws inspiration from Asian female faces in an Asian society.
Before painting, each canvas is covered with original Japanese manga cartoons. The paintings depict first and foremost the strength and beauty of women portrayed against a subtle background of vintage imagery. Each painting is playful with strong, bold colors that bring each image to life. Beauty doesn’t exist on its own but is created by observers. To be a beholder, you have to pay attention. “Art is everywhere” – this is her own mantra. She sees beauty everywhere – in nature, in people’s faces. “We just need to slow down – open our eyes and minds”.
We are delighted to launch our 5th ‘Artist Playground’ in Phuket – part gallery, part studio but wholly unexpected and inspiring. The Artist Playground is an initiative intended to add elements of local interest, cultural intrigue, and visual ingenuity to the hotel’s communal space, said Brett Wilson General Manager.
Together with Celine, Pullman Phuket Arcadia is partnering with Pimali Hospitality Training Centre – Foundation, who are dedicated to fighting the exploitation of disadvantaged youths and contributing to the reduction of poverty in the north-east of Thailand. Pimali offers hands-on hospitality training to underprivileged youth and orphans who have completed their compulsory education in Thailand. The aim is to help these young people secure a professional future in the hospitality/tourism industry and achieve their financial independence. Pimali Training recently welcomed their first student from Phuket, in connection with Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation, a foster home for children in need.
More than just an exhibition, if you connect with any of the pieces displayed you are welcome to make a purchase to add to your personal art collection. Portion of the sale will be donated to Pimali Foundation and Phuket Sunshine Village. The exhibition will be on display until end of February 2022.
